Youth training Strasbourg announces the fifth edition of the Council of Europe’s World Forum on Democracy which will be held on November 5-7, 2016 in Strasbourg. This year, the forum will engage with decision-makers and opinion-formers in a reflection on how education and democracy can reinforce each other and address the risks of new social divides. During the World Forum, participants will represent Youth and join the different labs.
Participants will be given particular roles in the labs and newsroom according to their interests and competences (rapporteurs, audience, critical thinkers). Beyond the labs, the participants may organise parallel activities to make their voices heard and present their visions of education and democracy.
Travel expenses and visa costs will be reimbursed upon presentation of the relevant receipts, according to the rules of the Council of Europe. Board and lodging are provided and paid for by the Council of Europe: participants will be accommodated at the European Youth Centre in Strasbourg (EYCS).
Who?
Participants must be aged between 16 and 30 years old and be residents in one of the 50 signatory States of the European Cultural Convention of the Council of Europe. 20 places will be made available for participants from other regions outside the European continent.
All participants must be supported by a youth organisation or network or informal group working on democracy. Fluency in English is required.
How?
To apply, fill in the online application form found on the Council of Europe's website, including the link to a short 1 minute video posted on YouTube, explaining your motivation, and how you relate to the topic of education, learning and democracy.
The organising team will select 75 participants, taking into account balance between genders, geographical regions, different types of experiences, organisations, institutions and projects. Candidates will be informed if their application has been accepted or rejected by September 13, 2016.
