 LLM European Competition Law and Regulation

The master track ‘European Competition Law and Regulation’ offers a unique program across  European universities to specialize in competition law and study the regulatory framework  applicable to economic activities in fast-moving and progressively digitalized markets.

Scholarships: only available for Non-EU/EEA students.

The Amsterdam Merit Scholarship is for outstanding students who meet the following criteria:

  • An LLB degree with an average grade of 7.5 (on a scale from 1-10) and been admitted to one of the Amsterdam Law School's LLM programmes.
  • No more than five years have elapsed between obtaining the LLB degree and starting the LLM programme.
  • They have not already obtained an LLM or any other master degree at the University of Amsterdam, and have not been granted another scholarship.

The eligibility assessment will be made on the basis of an AMS motivation letter, grade point average, resume, motivation letter and letters of reference regarding your academic qualities.

The scholarship equals the amount of the tuition fee. The deadline for application is on the 1st of April.

Accommodation: The University does not provide accommodation itself, but assists students in finding it.

 

Application Process

Deadline for enrolment in September is on the 1st of April.

Enrolment in February is also possible, with a deadline of the 1st of November.

Registration is done though an online platform. In addition to that, the following documents need to be mailed:

  • Printed version of the completed online application form
  • Certified copy of university transcript including grades
  • Certified copy of university diploma
  • Official copy of your TOEFL/IELTS/CE score
  • Curriculum vitae
  • Copy of your secondary school/high school diploma

Program structure

The compulsory courses are:

  • Principles and Foundations of European Union law (semester 1)
  • European Competition Law (semester 1),
  • Law of the Internal Market,
  • Free movement of Goods and Services (semester 1)
  • EU Regulated Markets (semester 2).

Besides these courses, students can choose a number of electives from the course catalogue.

The programme is concluded with a Master’s thesis on a topic of the student’s choice. The courses and the thesis will amount to 60 ECTS.

 

Career prospects

This Master's programme is intended for students who are interested in pursuing a career EU institutions, national governmental organizations of EU Member States dealing with economic regulation and competition law, internationally oriented law firms or in-house law departments in multinational companies around the world.
