Master in International Human Rights Law - University of Groningen

This Master should prepare students for any career in an international legal environment related to international human rights, such as international organisations. Students will be trained in international humanitarian law and other related fields as well. One of the goals of the programme is to enhance the research, presentation and oral skills of the students.

Application Process:

2. Necessary Docs: 

- the fully completed application online (via Studentlink)

- a certified copy of the candidate’s academic transcript from his/her university

- a certified copy of the LLB degree certificate

- two academic references

- a letter of motivation

- a curriculum vitae

 - photocopy of the passport (the page with the date of issue and expiry, personal details and picture)

-  evidence of English proficiency (TOEFL: at least 92, IELTS: at least 6.5, CPE or CAE)

- International Criminal Courts and Tribunals 

- International Health Law 

- International Human Rights Law 

- International Institutional Law 


* Optional courses – students have to choose between:

- International Humanitarian Law or Refugee and Asylum Law 

- European Human Rights Law or International Crimes 


* Extra: The seminar on human rights (compulsory)

* Thesis: yes

* Internship: not required, but recommended 


Career prospects: human rights related jobs in governmental institutions and ministries, international organizations, the EU, non-governmental organizations, the international commercial sector, internationally operating enterprises, academic institutions.
