MSc in Energy Law, Business, Regulation and Policy International Hellenic University (IHU) 

The Master of Science in Energy Law, Business, Regulation and Policy offers a highly flexible qualification with emphasis to the legal, economic, geopolitical, business and environmental problems which arise and the political, legal and legislative solutions offered in the greater European and International Energy sector, in relation to Energy sources and infrastructure, international energy transactions, transportation and storage of Energy, the legal, commercial – business, regulatory, geopolitical, economic and financial issues and the resolution of disputes which arise in the energy sector, for the purpose of a holistic, all-around inter-disciplinary approach to energy issues.

This programme is designed for University graduates of Law & Political Sciences, Economics, Business Studies & Engineering, with a strong motivation to pursue a career in energy related domains.

Application Process

Applications from University and Technological Educational Institutes graduates in related subject areas, such as Law, Political Sciences, Economics, Business Studies and Engineering, will be considered.

Prospective students need to follow the IHU applications process as it has been described in the LL.M in Transnational and European Commercial Law, Mediation, Arbitration and Energy Law.

 

Programme Structure (90 ECTS)

Core courses (54 ECTS): Energy Law I; Energy Company Strategies, Operation and Finance; Cross-border Energy Trade; Energy Economics; Energy & Environment; Energy Law II; Energy and Environmental Policy; Energy Politics & Security; Energy Transport & Storage.

Elective Courses (6 ECTS): Participants choose two of the following modules in the second term: Energy, Mineral and Petroleum Taxation; Corporate Environmental Liability; Management and Design of Renewable Energy and Sustainability Systems; Water Law & Policy; Quantitative Methods for Energy and Environmental Economists; Climate Change Law and Policy; Mergers and Acquisitions in the Energy Industry; Disasters, Vulnerability and Development; International & European Environmental Law & Policy; Derivatives for Energy; Special issues in Accounting & Costing in the Energy Sector; Recent Developments in Energy Law & Business.

Master’s Dissertation (30 ECTS): In the third semester, students choose a dissertation topic relevant to the courses of the MSc programme. The topic is chosen by the student with input and advice from a faculty member, who acts as the supervisor, working closely with the student. The dissertation is an individual paper of original scientific work, which upon completion is submitted for examination and approval by a three-member committee chaired by the student’s supervisor.

Career Prospects: This MSc seeks to provide its graduates with specialised knowledge for a successful career in national and international organisations, energy businesses and companies, law offices and firms, Regulatory Authorities, and public sector services and organisations, which deal with the whole range of energy issues.
