Definition
Big Data (Ro: Big Data, De: Big Data, Fr: Big Data) (See also: Cybersecurity, Internet privacy, Cloud, Data Mining, Data protection) = an all-encompassing term for datasets too large and complex to be effectively stored and analyzed by traditional data management and processing infrastructures. Big data arrives from many sources at an extremely high velocity, volume, and variety. It can be harnessed to produce insights, goods, and services of significant value across a variety of fields. To extract meaningful values from big data it is necessary to have sophisticated processing power, analytics capabilities and skills. In most jurisdictions, such as the United States, there are no Big Data specific laws or regulations; companies utilizing Big Data must, however, comply with existing privacy and data laws in addition to contractual commitments and policy obligations.
